HOUSTON
John Page Houston passed away unexpectedly May 8, 2013, in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born October 6, 1936, in Floresville, Texas to John and Wally Houston. He was a graduate of St. Mary's University. At the age of 5 he was stricken with polio. He spent at least a year in an iron lung and was no stranger to adversity. He enjoyed almost 25 years as a dedicated middle school teacher. His passion was history. He served God as a devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, was a member of the San Antonio Rose Society, a weather enthusiast, and was an avid sports fan - "I root for 2 teams-Texas-and whoever plays against Oklahoma!". John lived the last several years of his life in New Braunfels. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Alice R. Houston, and his sister, Wally Ann Crenshaw. John is survived by his daughters, Vicki Phillips and husband, Nathan, of Austin, Tera Paige Hooks and husband, Scott, of New Braunfels; granddaughter, Alexandria Paige Phillips, of Austin; sister, Madelyn Lang, of Dallas; sister-in-law, Camelia Gower of Alpine, CA; and nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Masche of Minnesota, Clarke Gonzalez of British Columbia, Canada, Lance Lang of Nebraska, and Layton Lang of Dallas; and dedicated caregiver until the end, Sandra Gonzales.
