I was 3 years behind Robert, at Luling High School, then Southwest Texas State. Years later, I was working as a civilian at the Pentagon; I ran across him in the Pentagon 3 separate times, once when he was a Colonel, next as a Maj. Gen., and finally as a 3-star Lt. Gen. He recognized me all three times. I salute him and his memory, as possibly the greatest graduate of LHS, and SWT. I have been living near Boerne , TX , for the past 22 years. Anyone who flew over 100 missions to N. Vietnam deserves a big salute from everyone in the Air Force, including myself, an Air Force veteran. My deepest condolences to all of his relatives.

Dear Kita, Please extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family. Our families were neighbors and dear friends in Luling and shared many wonderful memories. Even before Skipper became a football star at Luling High School, my dad recognized his leadership capabilities. I looked up to Skipper as a wonderful mentor and role model. Please remember us to Elizabeth and Linda. Please ask Linda if she still remember spilling the beans to the visiting neighbors about the cake that Mom made and hid for the band boosters. With deepest sympathy, Ross Jr. and Terri Whiteside ([email protected])

Mrs. Rutherford,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours. I hope you know how much I loved and respected him. He was the greatest leader I saw in my career. I will never forget fishing with him and he caught a big bass, went under the boat as I grabbed for a net. Of course I got the blame for him losing the fish, but we laughed about it. And it was at Grassy Pond, where he held the record for the biggest bass caught. The memories I have are the best. And thank you for coming up to me in the commissary at Kadena in 1981 and telling me you were glad to have me at Kadena. Those memories will last until I am gone. He was a "Man amongst boys". God Bless.
With much love and respest.
