Ruth Bolger Looney Skirvin
Mrs. John Darrel Skirvin nee Ella Ruth Bolger Looney went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2013, at the age of 97. Ruth was born on November 22, 1915, in McGregor, Texas, the daughter of Glenn Gordon Bolger and Josephine Eady Blanton.
She graduated from Mercedes High School in 1933 and soon married Richard C. Looney, a cavalryman stationed at Fort Brown, Texas where they lived until World War II. Her five children were born in Army hospitals. She remained an Army wife until 1950 when she and Richard retired to Medina, Texas. After five years of ranching, they returned to San Antonio lived there for 25 years and subsequently enjoyed a second retirement in Waring, Texas. Richard passed away in April 1986.
In November 1992, Ruth married John Skirvin, a retired Army veteran of two wars and Purple Heart recipient. They lived in Waring for ten more years before their health required assisted living.
Ruth served in the Women's Motor Corps during World War II as a Lieutenant, was an accomplished seamstress and a long time active member of Trinity Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas and Comfort Baptist Church, Comfort, Texas. She loved and collected books and was an avid reader. Above all, Ruth was a wonderful and devoted Mother and caretaker of her family.
She is predeceased by her parents, sister Blanche and brother Glenn, and her husband Richard.
She is survived by her husband, John, and three sons and two daughters and their spouses; Richard Glenn Looney (Nancy), Robert Wallar Looney (Selma), Mary Carol Rust-Corcoran (Peter), Michael George Looney (Marlys), and Martha Josephine "Tita" Eden (Mike). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Viewing and visitation will be on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with services following at 11:00 a.m., both at Comfort Baptist Church, Comfort, Texas. Interment will follow immediately at Comfort Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Comfort Public Library or the Waring Volunteer Fire Department.
