Obituary Condolences

Albert D. Davies, Col USAF Retired, was born 25 April 1930 in Los Angeles and passed on 23 September 2013 in Austin.
Albert is survived by his wife, Rose Ellen. Two sons, Dr. William Davies and his wife Lori of Houston. Capt Art Davies (Delta Airlines) and his wife Susan of Atlanta. Bill and Lori have nine children: Daphne, Tobin, Collin, Drew, Caroline, Maci, Cooper, Abigail, and Gabriel. Art and Susan have two daughters: Paige and Ansley.
Al "Big Daddy" graduated from Cal-Berkeley where he captained the 1951-52 baseball team. After graduation he joined the US Air Force Air Cadet Program. As a pilot he flew the RF-84 and 101 in Korea, Japan and France. He also accumulated over 3000 hrs as a T-37 Pilot Training and PIT instructor in Arizona and Texas.
Al then served as a Mission Commander on ABCCC in Southeast Asia. He then moved on to numerous non-flying command positions. Commander of Basic Training, OTS, and the USAF Language School at Lackland AFB in the mid 1970's, and he was the Tech School Commander and Acting Base Commander at Keesler AFB, where he retired in 1981.
Al then came to Austin and served as the Director of Physical Plant Operations for the Jester Center Student Housing Center on the University of Texas campus for 13 years.
After his second retirement, Al continued to serve others by volunteering with his church and the VA hospital in Austin. He also enjoyed organizing weekly golf events for all comers at Onion Creek Golf Club.
Visitation will be at 0900 followed by Eulogies at 1000 on Friday 27 September 2013 at Harrell Funeral Home, FM 2770 and Kohlers Crossing in Kyle, Texas. A Graveside Service with full military honors will follow at 1315 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
