Robert Kingston Obituary
Robert Eugene Kingston, Jr., age 90 of San Antonio, Texas passed away at home on October 12, 2013. He went by many names. To his children, he was Dad, to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was Happy, to the many young people that he pulled on skis behind his boat at Lake McQueeney, he was Uncle Bob and to the rest of the world, he was Bobby. Bobby was born in San Antonio to Robert Eugene Kingston and Sibyl Brewer Kingston. He graduated from Brackenridge High School with the class of 1941 and was part of the monthly "Purple Gang" until his death. He served in World War II as a pilot in the Army Air Corp flying C47s in the European theater. After the war he joined his father in the family business of Kingston Mfg. Co. which was founded in 1918 making leggings for the Dough Boys. The company later made children's sportswear and school uniforms. He was a member of the Rotary Club of San Antonio for over 60 years and served as the president in 1989-1990. He taught Sunday School, was a choir member and a deacon for over 60 years at Baptist Temple and McQueeney Baptist Church and was a current member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Unity class and the SonShine Singers. He had an active part in the leadership of many civic and Christian organizations. Bobby served as a trustee at the Baptist Health System, the Mexican Baptist Institute (Baptist University of America) and San Antonio Junior College. He was also a member of the Starlite Ballroom Dance Club of New Braunfels. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great grandson, Jackson William Cook. He is survived by his wife of over seventy years, Betty Lu "Blu" Kingston and his children and their spouses Fred & Lois Kingston of Sugar Land, TX, Shawn & Gary Bridges of San Antonio, and Cuchara, CO, and Sibyl & Bill Galbraith of Goldsby, OK and Little Rock, AR. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and their spouses, Philip Kingston, Dallas, Amy Claire and Joby Wieser, Fredericksburg, Annella and John Rutherford, Franklin, TN, Mark and Molly Bridges, Washington, DC, Beth and Richard Sarey, Frisco, TX, and Kate & C.W. Cook, Goldsby, OK and nine great grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Porter Loring Mortuary at 1101 McCullough on Monday, October 14th between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
