Sandra Lopez-Cantu Obituary
Sandra Lopez-Cantu born February 09, 1966 went to be with the Lord at the age of 48 on July 06, 2014 at 3:20 am surrounded by her family and friends as she left to be with God. Sandra is preceded in death by her baby sister Valerie Lopez, Father Joe Lopez, Grandfather Domingo Cardenas, Grandmother Lupe Cardenas, Grandparents Manuel and Lupe Lopez, and Mother-in-law Juanita Cantu.
Sandra is survived by her Husband of 14 years Mike Cantu, her 11 year old son Tristan Cantu, Mother Sylvia Cardenas, Brother Joe Lopez, several nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Sandra's childhood began on the Southside of San Antonio where she attended Graebner Elementary, and Stephenson Middle school. Sandra often spoke of the great times playing with her neighborhood friends and family.
Sandra and her parents moved to Northwest Side of San Antonio where she attended John Marshall High School. Sandra graduated High School in 1984 and attended The University of Texas at San Antonio where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.
While Sandra was in college she began to work at Raquetball and Fitness Clubs of San Antonio in 1989 where she remained a loyal employee for 22 years. Sandra's career at Raquetball and Fitness and Spectrum Clubs was a prosperous one where she met several friends that she would continue to follow throughout her life.
Sandra met Mike at Raquetball and fitness where they became friends and after four years began to date and eventually marry on May 5, 2000 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada. On August 2006 Sandra and Mike experienced the greatest event of their lives when she delivered her son Tristan Cantu. Sandra and Mike decided to move out of the city to raise Tristan and chose Floresville, Texas.
Sandra truly enjoyed the time she spent with Tristan and Mike as they planned Tristan's future. Sandra's personality was like no other, her smile would light up any room she entered and she considered everyone she met as a friend.
Sandra will be missed by many but will forever be in our hearts as her legacy of treating people with kindness and bringing people together lives on.
The celebration of Sandra's life as she enters the Kingdom of God will begin on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 6:45 pm at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church where the family will greet visitors. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Wednesday evening at the church. Visitation will again at 10 am Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church followed by the celebration of Mass at 11 am at the church. Following the Mass graveside services will be at Mission Burial Park South.
At the family's request Father Jimmy Drennan, a lifelong friend has opened an educational scholarship fund for Sandra and Mike's son Tristan Cantu. In lieu of flowers everyone is asked and encouraged to donate to this educational scholarship fund. This will assist Mike in providing for Tristan's education in the coming years.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the wonderful love and support given to Sandra and her family during her illness.
