Linda Hughes Obituary

January 13, 1945 - April 17, 2015
After a long battle with breast, then bone cancer, Linda Darlene Hughes passed away on April 17, 2015, at the age of 70.
Linda was born on January 13, 1945 in Harlingen, TX, to Archie and Mickey Hughes. She grew up in McAllen, TX in a very close-knit, loving family. After Business College, she pursued a career in advertising. Her first job was with KRIO in McAllen and then she excelled from there as an Advertising Executive for The Pitluk Group, Bloom Agency in Dallas, Builder's Square, Joske's and Ken Thompson Agency.

Linda was a driven professional with a love for traveling to many different countries with friends, going to New York with her sister, gambling in Vegas or Tahoe, and partying with friends and family. She loved sun, sand and the beach. She was proud to be a member of the local Sweet Potato Queens club and had years of fun at different functions wearing their trademark tiara and feathery boas. She had many, many friends and her radiant smile and loyalty is what most people will remember about her. Her one niece was her pride and joy and she spoiled her rotten. The love for her cats ran deep. She had been a loving caregiver to her Mother for the last 7 years.

When diagnosed with metastatic bone cancer in 2008, (23 years after her original breast cancer diagnosis) they gave her 12-36 months, but she proved them wrong and showed her resilience for 7 more years. She remained a brave, strong woman, even throughout her final months.

She leaves behind her Mother, Mildred Hughes; her sister Edith/Dollie (Earl) Lott; her loving niece, Buffie Lott, step-nephew Lewis Lott, as well as an aunt and numerous cousins. There are also many, many friends that will miss her. Her father predeceased her.
The family also wants to thank Helen Thompson, Linda's best friend for over 40 years, and her son, Brandon Thompson for all their personal help during this trying time.

Linda requested to be cremated. A Memorial service will be held on April 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Los Patios in The Hacienda room. Flowers may sent to Los Patios, 2015 NE Loop 410, SAT,TX 78217 or donations may be made to the Animal Defense League of Texas (envelopes will be available at the memorial) or The Noreen Fraser Foundation. For personal acknowledgement you may sign the guest book at www.missionparks.com in the obituary section.

She was an inspiration to us all, and a fighter through her illness. You would never have known she was sick if you didn't know her. She always offered words of encouragement through tough days. May she rest in God's peace.
