Dear McCoy Family, Dave will be dearly missed by so many people. Dave always had a great smile and wonderful things to share about his beloved family. I was shocked at the news - and regret not being able to attend his funeral. I'd known David since grade school playing football with house at the Fell's house on Montpelier. Participating in neighborhood pranks. One Friday evening a water balloon fight was taking place at the Fell's and my family was heading to Novena when an erant thrown water balloon clocked my Dad as he was closing the garage. David and Jimmy McFadden were the unfortunate victims or his initial anger. Later the boys all laugh about it for years and years later my Dad was some what of a mentor to David when it came to equipment for trimming trees. I fondly remember his basketball handling skills stalling for long periods frustrating opponets into foaling him which just increase the Mustang's lead as he made his free throws. God Bless Him and May Prepetual Light Shine upin him.

Dearest Cathy, Heather and Natalie,
I cannot begin to imagine the pain you must be feeling to lose such a wonderful and caring person in your lives so suddenly. I know it does not provide much solace at this time to know that he will always be with you. The pain will never go away but will eventually be comforted by the wonderful memories you have made as a family. Although I never had any classes with David at Jefferson, I remember him well. He always had a smile on his face and he had a positive effect on his classmates, as well as the teachers and the rest of the campus. I am so sorry for your loss and I know that there are no words to comfort you at this time. Please accept my sincere condolences. Love to all of you,

David was always so proud of his family. I remember him talking about how blessed he was because of them. I talked to David about two weeks ago at the car wash and he talked about how great his business was doing and that he was so blessed because of it. He was looking forward to his daughters basketball season coming up this school year, he was so proud of her. That's what I will always remember is that he was blessed and never complained. David taught me to look at your blessings and to be a blessing because life is but a fleeting moment. Thank you David!

Natalie,
We were all blessed to have your dad in our lives. The single most kindest person I have ever known. As someone who has been around young athletes and their families all his life, your dad was the model of real success. The time he was able to spend with you was more valuable than all the money in the world. Time to do the things you love in your life is the single most valuable currency one can acquire. Your dad had it and he loved spending time with you and supporting your basketball dreams. He admired your dedication and you made him very happy. Have faith in knowing he will always be watching over you and your mom. My deepest sympathy to you both.

He always called me "Gigi CON-DEE" whenever i saw him...a name that came from the kids because I always had candy for them. He will forever always be the "REAL MCCOY"!!! And we are all going to miss his him dearly. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Cathy, Natalie and Heather,
My sincere condolences to each of you. There are no words to properly express my feelings of grief right now. David and I were competitors as children and later teammates in high school. During those formative years we became friends. He was a true competitor with a quick wit, dazzling smile, and a unique talent for reaching out to each individual in a genuine way. As we grew into men, I can honestly say that the happiest I ever saw David was with you Cathy and your girls.

To the McCoy family. I was sad to hear the news of your loss. My daughter Savannah Walker was in volleyball and track with Natalie for the last few years and David never missed a game. He was always smiling and encouraging and asking Savannah, "When are you gonna get on the basketball team?" Lol. We will miss his outgoing personality, his smile & the joy he brought. Prayers for your family.

My husband and I have known David for over 20 years. He is the person I have called to do any landscaping or tree trimming on my property for these past 20 years. During that time, he also became a friend. I would see him from time to time at HEB, or out with his family, and a simple "hello" turned into a 30 minute conversation! We are beyond saddened to hear of his passing. I just saw him in October when he did some landscaping work for us. I couldn't have guessed that would be the last time I would ever see him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. David was a genuine person, and he will be missed!

Dear Cathy & Natalie,
Our family is so terribly sorry. Since the day we heard the news, there really are no words to express our sadness. Whenever we think of David, we comment about the joy he had every time he watched Natalie play basketball and whenever he spoke of his family. He was always smiling, encouraging Emily (for which we will always be grateful) and he had such a BIG heart. We have wonderful memories of him and always will. How proud you must be to know how loved he was by everyone who met him and to know how much pride you all gave him. We are praying for you guys and we are here if you need anything. We mean that. You are in our thoughts and we pray for the Lord to comfort you, as only He can. Love you all.

In 1972 David was spending the night with Stan and I. I was in 7th grade, they were in 8th. In our unending pursuit to impress some female neighbors, we blasted a neighbor's home with eggs. After the police showed up those same girls turned us in. After cleaning the entire house in the black of night, with my our mom's both working and my Dad out of town (thank God!), we found ourselves being transported downtown by S.A.'s finest. I had never been more scared in my life. Stan was stone quiet. David engaged the officer from door to door, at one point asking the officer for the SPORTS PAGE!!! The officer responded, "You are on your way to jail and you want to read the sports page?" With a straight face David's response? "No sir. When I watch the 10 o'clock news I notice all the prisoners being brought in have newspaper to cover their faces. We are all sports stars so we don't want anyone to know who we are until this case is settled! I thought the sports page would be best for us!" After almost crashing from laughter, he assured us that no cameras would be awaiting our arrival! David Lee McCoy, owner of the best white boys afro in TJHS history, husband, father, friend, rest in peace my friend. There will be no need to cover your face in heaven.

My darlings Cathy, Natalie, Heather & family: I wish I had the right words to comfort you. David's smiling face told the tale of his love, pride, and happiness for all of you. It was so evident how much he loved all of you-he made his family a priority. He was quiet strength one minute, and then could give his beautiful bride what is still considered by most to be the best and most fun wedding, hands down! David was like another brother to me... always loving, welcoming, helpful, and supportive. His verve of life and family were strong and palpable...that feeling will remain and sustain you. You can take him with you always and everywhere. You are in my heart and prayers, and I am here if you need anything at all (a restful trip to the Pacific Ocean maybe). He was a wonderful, wonderful man, and we were lucky to have known him...
All my love,
