Audrey Tschirhart Obituary

May 8, 1922 - February 2, 2017
After a lifetime of adventures filled with love and laugher, Audrey Ray Ard Tschirhart joined her husband in Heaven to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary together.

She passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in New Braunfels, Texas with her dancing shoes on. Audrey was born on May 8, 1922 in Covington County, Alabama to Spencer Gilbert Ard and Ada Ellafair Hutcheson. Audrey cherished the beauty in every experience from picking cotton in Alabama to traveling around the country with Western Union and the telephone company as a switchboard operator. In February1948 she met her long time World War II solider pen pal in New Orleans, LA and they married the following day amidst the Mardi Gras parades. They then moved to San Antonio and settled into their home in Leon Valley, Texas. Audrey worked at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas until her retirement. Life after the career looked good on her as she took up country line dancing lessons with friends, earned her Associates Degree from St Philips College, was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition, she became a grandmother to six of the luckiest grandkids. Audrey loved treating her family to large home cooked meals, playing checkers late into the night, and reading and re-reading every children's book in the house. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Louis Tschirhart and grandson Michael Cletus Hakert. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Tschirhart-Hakert (Michael), and her son, John Tschirhart (Jane); six grandchildren, Stephen Tschirhart (Danielle), Peter Tschirhart (Brian), Sarah Hakert-Langford (Chris), Ruth Tschirhart-Hulme (Ryan), John Hakert, Elizabeth Tschirhart-Thompson (Jonathan); six great-grandchildren, Alice Tschirhart, Caden and Vera Langford, Lucy and Nathan Hulme, Ian Thompson; two sisters-in-law Erna Schneider and Martha Hutzler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 9 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of choice. Father Christopher Robinson from St Francis Episcopal Church officiating.

Warm thank you to Brookdale Senior Living and Brookdale Hospice for their loving care.

My dear Cousin Audrey...how very special you were. Though miles and time separated us, when we became "reacquainted" about 20 years ago, we found so much in common. I am thankful we were able to share some recipes of old and some handwork our Grandmother Hutcheson had made. God bless you in Heaven, and I know your beloved Arthur was waiting for you . Blessings to Debbie and John and their Families in their loss. You were so loved and, with your help, we were able to get Aunt
Mae's date of death on her headstone in Alabama. We were quite a team.
Love, Rosalind H. Huggins, New Smyrna Beach, Florida
