Albert Steves Obituary

Albert (Aboo) Steves IV, age 67, of San Antonio died February 10, 2003. He was born November 3, 1935 to Albert III and Katharine Muir Steves. He graduated from the San Antonio Academy in 1950. Mr. Steves attended the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Texas Military Institute in 1954. He followed a family tradition, graduating from Washington and Lee University in 1958 and received a certificate from the Harvard Business School in 1983. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army at their Air Defense School in Ft. Bliss, TX for two years until 1960 when he returned to San Antonio to the family business, Ed. Steves & Sons, where he succeeded his father as President/CEO. Mr. Steves had a long and outstanding involvement in many charitable organizations. He was a past president of the Y.M.C.A. of San Antonio; also serving on the board of directors of the Y.M.C.A. of the Rockies and the National Y.M.C.A. His lifetime commitment to the Episcopal church resulted in his being named Senior Warden at St. Mark's Church and Chairman of the Department of Finance for the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. In 1988, he joined Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research as Director of Corporate and Planned Giving. Effective January, 2002 he was named Director of Special Projects under the office of the President. Mr. Steves is a past president of the Order of the Alamo; and a member of the Texas Cavaliers, Merry Knights of King William, San Antonio German Club, the Conopus Club, and the San Antonio Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Martha Monier Steves; two sons, Albert Steves V and wife Tricia Alebis, Kurt Monier Steves and wife Amy Barber; daughter, Frances Katharine Steves Calgaard and husband Kent; three grandchildren, Albert Steves VI, Georgia Estelle Steves, and Kathleen Frances Calgaard; sister, Katharine Ann (Kaki) Steves; father-in-law, Kurt A.J. Monier and wife Ann; brother-in-law, William K. Monier and wife Phyllis. SERVICES Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rt. Reverend James Folts, and Reverends Michael Chalk and John Lewis officiating. Honorary Pallbearers: Steve Allison, Ken Bryars, Fritz Huntress, Tres Kleberg, Frank Ledford, Jack Meyer, Don Miller, Bill Monier, Juddy Phelps, Fred Tips, Jr., Bill Watson, Brian Weiner, and Bartell Zachry. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research or a charity of your choice. Arrangements with Mission Park Funeral Chapels North.
