Reighley, Suzanne Marcel Hubert "Sue" 11/27/1941 ~ 07/08/2013 POINT LOMA -- A devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend with a caring heart, an impeccable sense of style, a feisty attitude, and a double-you-over- with-laughter sense of humor. After a five- month battle with brain cancer Sue's gone to see baby Jesus. Born in Bar Harbor, ME on November 27, 1941 to Simone and Marcel Hubert, Sue was the eldest of three daughters and ringleader /mentor to sisters, Prudence and Michelle. She spiritedly grew up in West Warwick, RI, on 14 Parker Street, and cheered for and graduated from John F. Deering High School. Her sights and adventurous nature took her to San Francisco with a rat pack of girlfriends. There they left their mark on Russian Hill and Sue met the love of her life. Sue met Robert W. Reighley "Robin" as an Ensign in the USN during the 4th of July weekend in 1964 in a bar over a beer. They married February 11, 1965 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in San Francisco before he deployed to Southeast Asia. Stephanie was born in RI later that year and Jennifer was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1967. The family's travels took them to Bermuda, back to RI, and eventually to San Diego in 1972 where Sue grew deep roots and even deeper relationships. When she returned to San Diego, after a three-year transfer to Virginia/ Washington DC from 1979-82, she vowed to never move again. Sue supported Robin's naval career throughout, reminding him that while he may be Captain, she was the Admiral. And she made a home much like her mother did always welcoming, always warm and cheerful. While mother to Stephanie and Jennifer Sue also served as a surrogate to three Scandinavian exchange students, a host of friends, naval sailors, neighborhood kids, yachtsmen and women from around the globe, strangers, and the guy at the meat counter in Vons. As members of the San Diego Yacht Club, Sue and Robin were very involved in the yachting community and Sue made a name for herself selling regatta t-shirts and affixing GDFB around the Club. Sue also became an integral member of the Club's race committee. Sue served on the race committee for the 1988 America's Cup challenge as well as the America's Cup competitions in 1992 and 1995. Sue was honored by SDYC with the Burgee of Merit award in 1998 for "Outstanding Service as a Volunteer." Sue was adventurous and loved being able to travel to foreign destinations to meet Robin while deployed, to tropical ports with rowdy friends, and down under with the America's Cup. Her most recent adventure took her to China with her baby sister. Sue and Robin spent countless summers at Chaffey's Lock, Ontario with Sue outfishing all of the Reighley men and many of the lakes' guides. It was her happy place there, and with her family. Sue is survived by her husband, Robin; daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer; sisters, Prudence and Michelle; and a passel of loved ones who celebrate her legacy. A private celebration for family and close friends will be held Thursday, July 18 at the San Diego Yacht Club following the scattering of her ashes at sea. Those who wish to donate in Sue's memory may send their gift to: The Chaffey's Lock Heritage Society, 1724 Chaffey's Lock Road, Elgin K0G 1E0 Ontario, Canada. Also, if desired, flowers may be sent for delivery on Thursday morning to SDYC, 1011 Anchorage Lane, San Diego, CA 92106, in Sue's name.

What a beautiful tribute. The "Reighley's" most certainly left their mark in Chaffey's Locks and I feel very fortunate to have met your family when I was one of the OP girls.
My thoughts will be with you all Thursday. xo
