Allue Elizabeth Gingery

Gingery, Allue Elizabeth SAN DIEGO -- Allue Elizabeth (Payne) Gingery, 93, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from Alzheimer's disease. Born in Miami, AZ, to Patrick and Elizabeth Payne, she grew up in Phoenix. A talented artist, Allue turned down an art college scholarship to help care for her siblings working as a window trimmer and retail sales lady. In 1941, she married Benjamin Gingery whom she met when she sang with a local dance hall band. She used prize money from her award winning textile designs as a down payment on her first home when she and Ben moved to San Diego. Together, they raised five children in Pacific Beach, Robert, Elizabeth "Betty" O'Neill, Richard, John and Patrick. She is survived by her sister Dorothy "Dotty" Bock, five children, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom miss her terribly. Ben, her husband of over 70 years, preceded her in death last November. Services will be held April 6th at 11 a.m. at Saint Brigid's Church in Pacific Beach where Allue was a devoted parishioner since 1941. The family would like to thank the Glenner Day Care Center, Sunrise of La Jolla and Vitas Hospice for their care.
