HART, AROXIE Jan. 4, 1921 to Dec. 12, 2012 Aroxie Hart passed away peacefully on December 12, 2012 in Olympia, WA. A longtime resident of La Mesa, she spent the last two years of her life living with her daughters in Olympia. Aroxie was born on January 4, 1921 in Everett, MA, the sixth of nine children of the Haroutunian family. In 1946, she married Vahakn Hart and moved to La Mesa where she lived for nearly 60 years, raised her family and became an integral part of the San Diego Armenian community and an active La Mesa resident. Roxie and Vahakn were part of a small but closely-knit group of Armenians who were instrumental in founding St. John Garabed Armenian Church in the late 1970's, which since has become the hub of the Armenian community in San Diego. Over the years, Roxie served in various leadership roles in both the St. John's community and in the Western Diocese of the Church. Roxie was also very involved in many community activities in La Mesa, including youth programs when her children were young, Grossmont Hospital Auxiliary, and in her later years, the many programs and classes offered through the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center. Roxie had a long, fulfilling life, and in her way of enjoying the simplest of things, was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was kind and friendly, always making new acquaintances, trying new things, and enjoying the company of friends. She was spunky, stylish and, above all, inclusive. There was always room for more around her table, and everyone who knew Roxie knew her as a gracious, generous hostess and, despite her stature, a giant in the kitchen. As far as she was concerned, there was no problem too big, no issue so great that a good meal, a warm hug and a lively gathering of family and friends could not resolve. Her home was always welcoming, her table ever abundant, and the memories shared there treasured. Roxie was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Vahakn, and is survived by her four children and their spouses, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its thanks and appreciation to all the people who looked after Roxie, treating her with kindness and love as she made her way through life. To those who cared for her in her last years, our sincerest gratitude for your love and support. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27th, at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary in La Mesa (619-466-3297). Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 28th at St. John Garabed Armenian Church at 4473 30th Street, San Diego, with burial to follow. Memorial donations may be made to St. John Garabed Armenian Church or the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center.
