WAHL, MERLE LOUISE nee TUBBESING Merle Louise Wahl, nee Tubbesing, was born January 6th 1930 in St. Louis, MO. After graduating from high school, Merle worked for Mallinckrodt as a bookkeeper plus she ran a candy drawer out of her desk based on the honor system. Always knowing that she wanted to travel the world and meet new people, in her 30's, Merle traveled alone to the Middle East making friends and life long pen pals with the people she encountered on her travels to Egypt, Israel and Turkey. In St. Louis, Merle met Phil Wahl, they married in March 1968 and the adventure began. In the early 70's a job transfer to San Diego for Phil landed them in La Mesa, CA where they made their home with their two daughters, Nicki and Amy. Merle wore many hats (most of them bright and sparkly with sequins) Homemaker, owner/ bookkeeper of a health food/gift store, owner and manager of several rental homes in So. Mission Beach (cleaner of said rentals), world traveler, sorority sister, full time fundraiser and volunteer for many local charity organizations, theaters and the arts. The Old Globe, Starlight, CCT/CYT, Diversionary Theater and the Lyric Opera to name a few of her passions. Merle and her beloved Phil traveled the world, experiencing many different cultures and always returning home with amazing stories. Merle is survived by her daughter Nicole Mathistad and her husband Erik Mathistad, grandson Dillon Mathistad, granddaughter Kylie Mathistad, daughter Amy Minniear and her husband Jason Minniear. A celebration of Merle's life will be Saturday, February 2, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3902 Kenwood Drive, Spring Valley, CA 91977.
