Raymond F. Medina(1919 - 2014)

Medina, Raymond F. SAN DIEGO, CA -- In loving memory of our father and grand- father, Raymond F. Medina. Born December 14, 1919 in San Jose, CA, and passed on March 26, 2014, at his home in San Diego, CA. Ray was the fourth of five boys born to Portuguese immigrants Joaquin and Bibianna Medina. Settling in Point Loma, CA in the early 20s, the Medina family became one the forerunners in the San Diego Tuna Fishing industry. Ray joined his father and elder brothers at sea as a young boy, eventually becoming captain of the family fishing vessels the Mayflower and the May Queen. As a graduate of Point Loma High School, Ray joined the Navy in the late 1930s and went on to serve his country as a Chief Boatswain's Mate during World War II. He spent the bulk of his tour of duty in the Pacific. In 1954, Ray and his younger brother Oliver decided to leave the fishing industry and purchased the Pacific Shores Cocktail Lounge in Ocean Beach, CA. Several years later, they expanded and opened the Sea Shores Cocktail Lounge in Point Loma. Ray raised three children in San Diego and was a well respected business owner and community member, known for his generosity and kind heart. His spirit continues on at the Pacific Shores, which is still owned and operated by his children. Ray is survived by a son, two daughters and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Monday, April 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA, 92121. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharp HospiceCare, please indicate the donation is in memory of Raymond Medina.
