Sarah Ann Harris

Harris, Sarah Ann SAN DIEGO -- Sarah Ann Harris passed away peacefully at home with her family on April 7, 2013; she recently celebrated her 86th birthday. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 16, 1927. She went to school at Shore High, Euclid, Ohio, where she met Allen S. Harris in the second grade and have been together ever since. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Allen "Scotty" Harris, Sr., who served in the Marines for 23 years. Scotty is a WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veteran. He was a coach and an athletic director at San Diego High for 23 years. He worked for the Padres for 23 years. They were engaged during WWII and married while both attended Ohio State University. She was also survived by her daughter, Linda K. Garwick; sons, Allen S. Harris, Jr., Howard J. Harris, Sr., and Wayne M. Harris; and daughter-in-law; Mona M. Harris; 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Whittles, Barbara McGlone; and brother, Gary Nelson. Preceded in death by her parents Dr. and Mrs. Howard A. Nelson, Sr. and brother Dr. Howard A. Nelson, Jr. Sarah was a kind hearted spirit; full of love and endless giving of herself to the ones she loved as well as people she didn't even know. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, spending time with family and walking her beloved Dachshund, Princess, every day and who was by her side day and night until she passed. Sarah was a devoted Mother, Military wife, and Grandmother. She worked in the Alumni office at Ohio State while Allen was going there. She also worked as a telephone switch board operator, hair dresser, PTA president, noon duty, teacher's aide, and was involved in the Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts. Services to be held at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122, on April 26, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of life" to follow. Donations may be made to Wounded Warriors and/or in lieu of flowers.
