Alfred Eugene Baillif Obituary
Baillif, Alfred Eugene 07/19/1925 ~ 02/22/2014 ESCONDIDO -- Preceded in death by wife of 64 years and childhood sweetheart, Shirley B. Baillif, Alfred is survived by his children: Deanna Concannon (David), Jeanette O'Hara, Cheryl Trindle, Elizabeth Jones (Wayne), and Michael Baillif (Lynn); 12 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; and his brother, Charles Victor Baillif. Alfred was born in Bloomington, MN, son of Charles and Lillian Baillif, and attended Bloomington schools and farmed on the Baillif Family Homestead. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1942 where he was trained as an airplane mechanic. As a crew chief, he flew missions of mercy and support throughout WWII in the Pacific and during the Korean conflict. He retired as a Master Sergeant from El Toro Marine Corps Air Base, CA. in 1963 and moved to Escondido, CA. where he co-owned, with his wife, the Baillif Avocado Ranch. He also drove School Bus #11 for the Escondido Union School District for 10 years while building his home and working the grove. In 1975, he bought his final grove in Valley Center, CA. and lived there until 2007. From there he and his wife moved into assisted living at Crest View Manor and then moved to Redwood Terrace until their deaths. Alfred was a loving, kind and compassionate person to his family, all his foster children, and his many friends. He treated everyone with honor, respect and dignity. Memorial service will be held at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Escondido, CA. on March 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. with a private interment at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. Donations may be made to the House of Prayer Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund.
