Kuhn, James Baldwin SAN DIEGO -- James B. Kuhn (Jim) peacefully passed away at home on July 7, 2014. He was born in San Diego in a little cottage on 38th Street. His grandfather, James E. Downs, MD delivered him to his parents Val and Clara Kuhn on October 20, 1928. For most of his life, he was raised in Chula Vista. He graduated from Sweetwater and then from San Diego State with honors in accounting. Shortly after he received his CPA certificate, he was admitted as a partner in CPA firm. He was a partner in a number of CPA firms (twice in the international firm of Touche Ross). Jim served on numerous committees of the California CPAs and was the first President of the State organization from San Diego and the youngest ever elected to that position. He served on council of the American Institute of CPAs and on a variety of committees including three years on the Joint Committee of the American Bar and six years on the Committee on Relations for the AICPA and the State Association. His professional activities were rewarded with the two highest awards by the California CPAs. Some of the civic organizations he served as President were San Diego and Imperial Counties Arthritis Foundations, Sigma Chi Alumni, Holiday Bowl, San Diego Sports Association, San Diego State Alumni and the Aztec Athletic Foundation. He received the two highest honors from the Sigma Chi Fraternity for his contributions to the City and the Fraternity. In 1970, he was the Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in the 37th District. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Darlene, daughter Sandra, twin sons, John and Jason, and he was a proud grandfather of five and great-grandfather of eight. A casual celebration of Jim's life will be held on August 15, 2014, at Qualcomm Stadium, Club level lounge from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Guests can enter stadium through Security Gate A on the Plaza level.
