Jerry Frederick Weaver Obituary
Weaver, Jerry Frederick 07/31/1921 ~ 08/13/2013 SAN DIEGO -- Dad passed away at 10:25 p.m., with family at his side. He was born in Indianapolis, IN. He lived a very full and engaging life, living in Indianapolis, IN, Walnut Creek, CA, and San Diego, CA. Growing up in Indiana, dad worked on a farm, went to a military high school, attended Purdue University, served in the Navy as a Chief Radioman, attended Depauw University- where he met the love of his life, Ruth Charlene. They were married in 1949 and lived 63 years together. Ruth predeceased Dad in 2011. Survivors include his two sons, Miles C. Weaver and John R. (Diane-spouse) Weaver; five grandchildren, Stacy (Tom-spouse) Nevers, Chelsea (Jermaine- spouse) Cheeks, Carrie Weaver, Lindsey Eckert, and Zachary Weaver; seven great-grandchildren, Stacy Never's children, Mason, Jackson, and Chase; and Chelsea Cheeks' children, Anthony, Tyshaun, James, and Tierra. Dad's professional career began in 1949 with Eli Lilly, a pharmaceutical company. His duties with Lilly were many, beginning as a purchasing agent (12 years), then, advertising chief for Elanco, while in Indianapolis. He moved his family, sons Miles (10), John (8), and wife (Ruth) to Walnut Creek, CA, in 1960 working as a pharmaceutical sales representative. In 1965 he moved again to San Diego, CA, with more responsibilities. Still in the sales field, he was assigned to UCSD's School of Medicine and ALL teaching hospitals in San Diego, plus Armed Forces hospitals in Southern California. He had an incredible photographic memory. His position required him to recognize on site and at any given moment approximately 1,800 medical students, resident MD' s, faculty, pharmacy personnel, RN's, and hospital employees. When he retired in the 80's, he left behind a legacy of professionalism unmatched by his associates with Lilly. For fun and relaxation, dad, involved himself with his sons' swimming, cub scouts, boy scouts, golfmg with work associates and neighborhood friends- traveling to/playing in Mexico, several mainland states, and Hawaii, ocean and fresh water fishing, babysitting his five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was not done! He also served as a Master Gardener President, RSVP officer, San Diego Blood Bank fund raiser- was a member of the 10-gallon club, physical fitness guru, Alumni president for DePauw University-San Diego chapter, and College View Estates newsletter editor. .. (probably didn't list all his activities) ... Dad was husband, father, and friend. He will be sorely missed by those who crossed his path. Every life he touched walked away blessed! Per Jerry 's wishes, his remains were cremated and no services were held. To remember Jerry, the family is asking that if you knew him and would like to contribute to a commemorative- keepsake binder please mail a hand written note and/or a picture of a time you spent together with dad to the following address, c/o Miles Weaver, 5128 Remington Road, San Diego, CA 92115. These will be placed in the keepsake binder for family to view.
