John D. "Jerry" Haxall Obituary
Haxall, John D. 'Jerry' 03/05/1925 ~ 06/08/2014 OCEANSIDE -- Jerry was born March 5, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Dorothy Dangerfield and John Triplett Haxall and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended Shadyside Academy in Pittsburgh and St. Paul's School in Baltimore before joining the Navy in 1943 during World War II. He served stateside in the V-12 program for two years, and was then assigned to L.C.I. 1001, stationed in the Philippines where he saw six months of combat service before the war ended. After the war, he returned to the University of Virginia where he received a B.A. in 1948. He married Leticia "Pat" Scott in 1951 and they remained married for 62 years. Jerry worked in personnel and labor relations for many years. He served as Labor Relations Director at Westinghouse Atomic Fuel & Atomic Equipment, and later served as the Secretary of the Labor Relations Board for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania under Governor William Scranton from 1963 to 1967. Later, Jerry worked as Personnel Director and then as a Trust Officer at Commonwealth National Bank in Harrisburg, PA. Jerry was a member of the Porsche Club of America and particularly loved racing and rallying both in the Pittsburgh and Harrisburg areas. In 1981, Jerry retired and he and Pat moved to California. They lived in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano before settling in Oceanside in 1990. Jerry enjoyed traveling and cruising all over the U.S. and the world and never lost his Navy-era love for the sea! Jerry is survived by his wife Pat; and by his three children, Thomas McCutcheon Haxall (Jeanette Javurek) of Verdi, Nevada, Elizabeth Lee Haxall of Studio City, CA, and Douglas Gordon Haxall (Marco De Souza) of West Hollywood, CA. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 19th, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 701 West St., Oceanside, CA.
