1920 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Evans, Albert L. Lcdr, USN Retired 04/17/1920 ~ 01/16/2014 SAN DIEGO -- An officer and a Gentleman, Albert Evans was born in Grand Rapids, IA. He passed away peacefully at home in San Diego, CA. He was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Mary and first wife Betty. Albert is survived by his wife Rachel of 26 years, five children, 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and eight step-great grand- children, one sister, and many other family and friends. He attended school at UC Berkeley and had an extraordinary career in Naval Aviation spanning 38 years. A decorated World War II veteran with four air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross, he retired with over 10,000 flight hours in more than 50 different types of naval aircraft. He retired again in 1980 as a captain for Air California. In his retirement years he shared with his wife, Rachel, many interests including Native American Studies, square dancing, and traveling. He was a member of the Master Gardeners, AA Vanguards, SD Bromeliad Society, and a Docent at Old Town Gardens. Albert always had a smile on his face and was grateful for his wonderful family and life. Services will be held Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 2696 Melbourne Dr., San Diego, CA 92123 followed by graveside at Miramar National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
