Cheryl Townsend Obituary

Cheryl Lynn Townsend san diego Cheryl Lynn Townsend, owner of the San Diego Chicken Pie Shop, died September 18, 2015 of cancer. Known to family as Cheryl, she was perhaps best known to a wide network of lifelong friends as Lynn. She was the daughter of National League MVP, Bob Elliott, and Iva R. Elliott. She married John Townsend in 1962, and took over the management of "The Pie" after John died in 2011. Lynn was the center of strong circle of friends, some formed and maintained from grammar school, but especially from her time at Crawford High School, where she graduated in 1962. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends throughout her life. Lynn is survived by her sons Bob Townsend and Chris Townsend. Bob is golf professional at the Riverwalk Performance Center and is married to Lisa Townsend. They have two children, Jack and Dylan. Chris is a sports radio host and TV host in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is married to Amanda Townsend. They have two children, Abigale and Madelyn. She is also survived by her brother, Scott and her sister, Judith. She maintained an especially close relationship with her husband's family in Beverly Farms, MA. Those who have known her will remember her as a strong woman, practical and outspoken, energetic, quick witted with a wonderful sense of humor. A pragmatist and intuitive, anyone who knew her quickly came to love her sense of humor, her love of baseball, theater, music and Paris. She will be missed. A memorial will be held at the San Diego Hall of Champions on Saturday, October 24th, at 11am. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, or Sharp Hospice Parkview.

Although I did not know Cheryl, I wanted to express my sympathy to the family and friends. I was born in 1968, raised by my grandparents in San Diego and practically grew up in the chicken pie shop. When I had my first child I always took him here. I thank you for those awesome memories!

I was so very very saddened to read this..Lynn and I have been friends since grammar school. Our Moms were great friends and my brother was friends with her sister Judy at Hoover High... I was in her wedding and my mom made the bridesmaid dresses.....RIP dear friend. You will be very missed by many people..I am so glad I stopped by Adams Ave. a few years back and we had such a fun day together..And your attitude was amazing over everything. We had a lot of fun together and your pony tail was fabulous. I was always secretly jealous of that pony tail.. miss you dear friend..You were quite a gal! Jean Wilson Phillips class of '61.

Very sorry for the loss of Cheryl, so many years have passed, but many times I have thought about the Elliott/Smith families who touched mine! Cheryl always took time with me when my parents visited Bob and Iva Rea, my dad Harry and Bob were best of friends I remember all of us going to watch Bob coach the Padres in the old Mission Valley baseball field and Cheryl and Judy made sure I had a great time! Many memories with the Sid Smith and Elliott families holiday get togethers! May God give peace and bless Cheryl's family as the deal with the loss of a beautiful woman! Thanks for the memories! Cheryl was one of my favorite cousins. We first listened to Elvis Presley together, along with her sister Judy on one of my many family visits to see Uncle Bob and Aunt Iva Rea. We often saw each other at the airport when she and John would be flying out on one of their trips. I loved her dearly and will miss her a lot.

Cheryl Lynn you were elegant and lovely. You always made me laugh. I loved being your little cousin! I admired you and looked up to you. One of my fondest memories was when I was about 15 and you took me to Palm Springs to Auntie Pam's house. We sang top 40 songs at the top of our lungs all the way through those windy roads. Little GTO you're really lookin fine! I remember watching you put on your makeup and thinking I hoped I would grow up as pretty as you were. Funny how memories come flooding back. I love you dear Cheryl.

I had the pleasure of helping to take care of Cheryl during her breast reconstruction procedures with SK Clinic. It was a delight to be part of her care. She was always so positive and I really enjoyed her visits to our office. Please accept my sincere condolences.
