I'm just reading this today. I'm devastated becuase I didn't know that the former love of my life even died. I met one of Chris' Tennessee teammates in Washington D.C. a few years ago, Bailey, he told me that Chris had a stroke, but I never heard that he died. To this day, I still have the promisse ring and all of the love letters that he gave me. I was introduced to Chris our Senior year in high school, dated, and kept in touch through the NFL days with the chargers. Then we lost touch during the latter years of his professional career. I think of him often and the holy spirit said goggle Chris to see if he's ok. Wow, I can't believe I won't see him again until I get to heaven. I'll never forget Christopher Eddie Mims, all of the love and memories we shared. I'll never forget the advice/wisdom his dear mother shared with me. I hope one day soon I can see his mom, the twin boys (so... cute), and his little sister whom he loved dearly again. I wish we could have helped him like he did for so... many others. That smile, bear hugs and kisses will never be forgotten. God Bless your family. You're truly truly missed even though I didn't know you're absent from the body, but you'll always be present in my mind. I love you forever, and our memories will be forever etched in my mind.

I didnt know about Chris' passing. I just found out today by reading about what happened to Junior Seau. The article said 8 other teammates had passed and Chris' name was listed. I was in TOTAL shock. I knew him through a mutual friend. I have to say that he took care of a lot of people because he was free-hearted and didn't want to see people struggle. I haven't seen Chris in over a decade but when you hear about someone you know passing away, and learn of the person's death the way I did, it's very sad. Rest in peace Chris. Those that had the pleasure of knowing you even for a little while will always remember you and that smile:)

Chris--
Wow--just wow. You never know how you might impact someone's life--we seldom tell people how they inspire us without even knowing it. After leaving Dorsey High we all went our separate ways to fulfill whatever destiny we prepared ourselves for. You hear from time to time about the lives of some of our classmates and their successes and some failures/setbacks. But we always remember those that were genuine. Chris you kept it real 100% of the time--while everyone else was getting caught up--you were coming up. I always knew you made your way through college and ultimately made your way back to Cali with the Charges, that inspired me to keep pushing to new heights.
God bless your Chris--you were a gentlemen before you were a man, you had more wisdom in high school than most adults. You wanted more for yourself than this world was willing to offer so you took what was yours and God backed you all the way.
I am proud to say I knew you, I learned from you, and even in your passing you continue to amaze me.
I was on my first deployment to Iraq when you passed. I am on my fourth deployment now. As we sit around and chop it up telling lies and bs'ing--somehow I always seem to sneak in the fact that I had one amazing classmate that is doing it big.
I am on my 4th consecutive deployment in Iraq and I found out about your passing quite by accident. 38 years may be a short life--but damn Bruh...what a ride. Few people will never enjoy what you experienced ever in life. The lives you touched, the memories you've left.
Rest in Peace Bruh...may God comfort your family and THANK YOU for being you.

To the Mims family,
I just became aware of your loss and would like to extend my condolences to you.
Chris and I became friends in San Diego. Chris just became a powerful light in my life with always checking in on me periodcally to be sure I was okay, showing me genuine kindness, and never asking for anything in return.
We lost touch as life moved us in different directions and so many days I have thought of him. True kindness, loyalty, and a sweet spirit is rare and he will be missed in a huge way. I have always thanked God for bringing him in my life up to this day. Chris had a big heart of gold.
God bless you and your family.

To The Mims Family: I am so sorry he is no longer here with us, but do know that he is still here with us in spirit. I pray that you all will be comforted by these words:
Try to remember that a GOOD man never dies; You will see him many times.
You will feel him in all things that are here out of love, and for love.
The person of a man may leave or be taken away, but the best part of a GOOD man stays. It stays FOREVER!

To the Mims Family,
May God give each of you strength, guidance, direction, comfort and everlasting love during this challenging moment in time.
To all of the males in Chris' family, the sons, nephews, brothers & cousins. Please remember who you are, you are a gift to the world just as your Uncle Chris was. Stay focused, obey the Lord and believe in your potential. Remember, Uncle Chris, wanted the best for YOU ! Make his name & memory last forever. "He made a difference in this Life for so many people." His legacy lives on. Perhaps someone can start a scholarship at his former high school.
Our world was a better place because of Chris Mims.

I would like to share a story about Chris Mims and the person I knew him to be.
In 1992 Chris' rookie season with the San Diego Chargers, I took my son Mikie to Chargers Training Camp in La Jolla. Through the course of the day my son Mikie met several players. The last being Chris Mims. My son approached Chris and asked his name and an autograph. As Chris was signing my sons ball he asked "So who is your favorite player" and my son replied, "Tony Gwynn." Chris smiled and then laughed as only he could do. That night all my son could talk about was #94 Chris Mims.
That was the begining of their friendship, a friendship that my son will remember forever. Through the course of many years their friendship grew to new heights in which they exchanged phone numbers and Chris would call from time to time to chat with my son. Eventually Chris would visit his kindergarden class, and even come to his pop warner football game on his birthday with gifts for him and his little brother Daniel. In 1994 channel 8 sportscaster Jim Laslavic did a feature story on the friendship between Chris and my son Mikie. When the Chargers returned from the Super Bowl in 1994, while standing in the crowd at the celebration parade Chris spotted my son, picked him up and put him in the car with him to ride in the parade.
These are just a few memories my family and I shared with Chris. The time and generosity Chris showed my sons truly show the special person he was.
Chris you were truly an inspiration to my sons Mikie and Daniel. Their love and passion for the game of football is because they wanted to be like you Chris Mims. We will forever be thankful for everything you did for our boys and the times we had with you. We will miss you and you will always be in our hearts.
To the Mims family our deepest sympathies and may God comfort you.
The Azhocars,
Mikie, Daniel, Mike, and Julia

I can still remember that big smile, huge heart, and appetite for my moms cookies. Memories of you and the Dorsey funnyboys are unforgetable. Chris, you will be missed on earth, welcomed in the kingdom of heaven, and forever appreciated for the love you showed us in 1988. To the Mims family. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
