Grandpa and his great grand son
April 24, 2018
My grandpa. He would put me up on his shoulders when I was a little girl. He taught me how to use a weed eater but I almost got my eye when a sticker flew at me and he didn't want me to do it anymore. He taught me how to cut, lay and grout tile. He taught me to do maintenance on my old car. He gave me my first car and it was a stick shift. He said if you couldn't drive a stick then you didn't belong on the road. I will be sure to teach my children and my grand children to operate a stick shift. I remember getting in his old packard, behind the wheel and he said I looked good in it. He took me out to the old house he was born in, the homestead. Grampa said his mother was always baking something and everyday after school he would come home to fresh baked goods. Grandpa showed me the biggest avocado I've ever seen in my life, from right there on the homestead property. Grandpa used to pick me up after school all the time and take me with him. I'd stay with my grandpa and we would go work on a house he had in Vista or go to the shop he had in Leucadia. We always went out to eat at all his favorite places. He would take me to stay with my great uncle Bob, his brother. I'm very fortunate to have been able to spend so much time with grandpa, he cared very much for me. He used to take me shopping for clothes, I'd get a shopping spree! He would say, " you wanna go shoppin baby?" And I'd say sure! Grandpa would find a place to sit and tell me to get whatever I want and when I was 16, 400$ of clothes was pretty awesome! I once asked my grandpa why he did all the things he did for me and he said because I deserved it and he knew my mother wasn't going to do it for me. He gave me the money to purchase 2 grown sows(female pigs) for breeding and I began my first business breeding, raising and selling market pigs, which helped me to achieve my American Degree in Future Farmers of America, the highest degree to be achieved in FFA, which I was awarded at their national convention. Grandpa was in FFA when he was in high school and he won an award for largest watermelon at the fair. Grandpa was such a big part of my life and I always brought my children to see him, my oldest is very fortunate to have been able to spend so many years very close to her great grandpa. I remember when my grandpa met my first husband and he gave him an almost bone crushing hand shake. Grandpa was of German descendants, so he was a tall oxy kind of man with a barrel chest. He was always so big and strong up until his end years when he was struggling with cancer. I remember him ordering a a drink everytime we went to eat, " Diet Coke on the rocks!," he'd say. He always put Tabasco on everything. I'm gonna miss my grandpa so much and I'm still having a hard time thinking that he's actually gone but I feel like he's always going to be with me, in my heart. I love him so much and I will never forget him. The last of the elders, not many more like him around now. His grand father was in the civil war on the union side and married his commander's daughter when he got home. They had a son who became a pastor and hotel owner and had my grandpa. My grandpa
