Obituary Condolences

Bengtson, David SAN DIEGO -- David Bengtson died peacefully on September 5, 2013, surrounded by family. He was an all league football player and state champion wrestler, unbeaten for two years, and Vista High's Outstanding Athlete for 1962. After high school he worked, attended college, and traveled the world. He was drafted in 1965, joined the Special Forces and served in Vietnam. The summer of 1968 saw him canoe the entire Yukon River with a fellow veteran. In time he became a father, construction artisan, and author. He enjoyed nature, especially the deserts, mountains and oak trees of the west. He was a natural teacher with a great love for history, art, and America. David had a quiet and passionate Christian faith which he exemplified through moral conduct, a forgiving nature, and calm, wise, and kind speech. A guiding phrase of his was: "the Attitude of Gratitude." He is survived by his wife Denise, their four children: Shawn, Noel, Jedd and Katherine; and by four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, many cousins, his brother Ron, niece Tiffany and nephew Joe. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he graced. A service will be held on September 22nd at Questhaven Retreat. In lieu of flowers, David requested memorials to the Wounded Warrior project, whose motto is, "the greatest casualty is to be forgotten"
