Eugene Ernest "Gene" Therieau Obituary
Therieau, Eugene "Gene" Ernest Desert Hot Springs-- Gene passed away October 4, 2013, after losing a valiant battle with brain cancer. He died at his home in Desert Hot Springs with his wife, Rosalie, at his side. Gene was born to former Palm Springs Mayor and City Attorney, Judge Eugene E. Therieau, and Margaret Therieau in 1939. He attended St. Theresa Elementary School and Palm Springs High School. Upon graduation, he attended the University of San Diego, received his law degree, and was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1968. He worked in the San Diego District Attorney's office, and then entered private practice in San Diego. Leaving the practice of law, he turned his attentions to entrepreneurship, starting several businesses throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Gene's experience as an Eagle Scout seemed to set the tone for his love of life, nature and adventure. Hence, upon his retirement in 1998, he and Rosalie left their home in La Mesa and took up the adventure of a full-time R.V. lifestyle. Still grounded in the Southwest, they returned to the desert in 2002 and settled amongst a close-knit community of friends and R.V. enthusiasts. Gene was preceded in passing by his parents, his brother Timothy and sister Carol. He is survived by his loving wife Rosalie, his brother Dennis, his children Anne and Michael, stepchildren Kathleen, Scott and Michael, and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in early November. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Sierra Club or the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research and Information.
