Obituary Condolences

BRUM, GEORGE RICHARD George Brum, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on December 7, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 9, 1916, in San Luis Obispo to Manuel and Mary Brum, Portuguese immigrants from the Azores Islands. In 1931, his family moved to San Diego. He served in the Navy during World War II. In 1945, he met and married Juanita Waldon. They lived in Allied Gardens where they raised their family in a close-knit neighborhood. He worked over 40 years as a fisherman, engineer and skipper on tuna boats. George enjoyed ballroom dancing with many friends, most special of those being Vi Freeland, his companion and dance partner for 25 years. George is survived by his daughters, Gale Ashleigh of Carlsbad and Nancy Mitchell and son-in-law Byron Mitchell of Encinitas; grandchildren Scott Ondler and Kevin Mitchell; great-grandchildren Tanner, Connor, Summer, and Logan Ondler; many nieces and nephews, and his companion, Vi Freeland. George was pre-deceased in death by his wife, Juanita, and his nine brothers and sisters. The family invites you to services on Saturday, December 15th, at El Cajon Mortuary, 684 S. Mollison, El Cajon, CA. Viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, George asked that you dance with someone special or enjoy a day at the casino in his honor!
