Obituary Condolences

REDMAN, JAMES HENRY Jim Redman was born on August 23, 1927. He passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2012, after a long struggle with Alzheimers. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betsy, his children, Margie, Nancy and Marty, his children-in-law, Ron, Jim and Carol, his grandchildren, Evan, Ryan, Megan, Molly, Nathan, Scotty and Christina, and his sister, Mary Lou Baldra, of Burlingame, CA. Jim was the youngest of five children born to Sterling and Nellie Mae Redman. Jim's family re-located from Evanston, IL, to Burlingame, CA, in 1934, where his father started Redman Scientific, a chemical supply business. While attending San Mateo JC, Jim started courting Betsy Druehl, who was literally the girl next door. Betsy graduated from Mills College in 1949 while Jim served with the army in Korea. Jim and Betsy married on August 27, 1950. Betsy taught elementary school while Jim finished his Industrial Engineering degree at San Jose State in 1951. Their children were born in 1952 (Margie), 1956 (Nancy) and 1959 (Marty). Jim and Betsy relocated to San Diego in 1952 where Jim spent his career in engineering and marketing with General Dynamics and Cincinnati Electronics, helped start two electronics companies, and finished up as Marketing VP for SAIC. Jim retired in 1990. Jim and Betsy's love of travel included the trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand with best buddies, Shan and Genny Deniston. Jim and Betsy spent many glorious summers traveling the U.S. and Canada in their motor home, including a trip up the Alcan Highway to Alaska. Jim was active as an Elder and Chairman of the Board at North Park Community Church, and spent years volunteering with programs for his kids. Jim was a great person, whether at home as a husband and father, at church, at work or traveling the world. He was sweet, kind, loving, patient and thoughtful. He loved everyone with whom he came into contact, and they loved him right back. A memorial service for Jim will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, at North Park Community Church, located at 3702 29th St. in North Park.
