James Joseph Clark Obituary
Clark, James Joseph 1928 ~ 2013 SAN DIEGO -- James "Jim" Clark, 84, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on August 2, 2013 after an extended illness. Jim was born in Moline, Ill., on October 17, 1928. The son of George and Esther Clark, he was the 7th of 9 children. Jim loved all sports; he was the youngest football Captain at East Moline High School at that time. Upon graduation, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. After his discharge, Jim pursued his passion for graphic arts and attended Art school in Chicago, Ill. He spent the next several years as a commercial artist in the Chicago area before moving to San Diego, Calif., in 1969. Together with his wife, Audrey Clark, he started Clairemont Signs in Kearney Mesa and, for over 40 years, it is still one of the most well- respected family business in town. Jim was well known for his fairness and stellar work ethics and you can still view Jim's artistry all over the San Diego and the surrounding areas. Jim was never one to sit idle and always had some project he was working on. In 1976, Jim and Audrey began building yet another family business which was known as Clark's Ranch in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Jim is survived by Audrey, his spouse of 61 years; daughters, Andrea Clark, Jodi Clark Voigt, and Jamie Clark; grandson, Jason Clark; and granddaughters, Ashley and Desiree Nihart; brother, Avery "Gene" Clark; sisters- in-law, Darlene and Nina Clark; and many, many adoring nieces and nephews across the United States. The service will be held at 1p.m., Thursday, August 8, at Miramar National Cemetery.
