GRANT, JOHN H. May 15, 1943 to September 22, 2012 John Hinemon Grant, formerly of San Diego, passed away at home on September 22, 2012. He was born May 15, 1943 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey to John W. and Martha E. Grant. John's family had a long history of military service dating back generations. After graduating in 1961 from Bordentown Military Institute in New Jersey, he chose to pursue the same path. In 1965 John graduated from Pennsylvania Military College and joined the U. S. Marine Corps. Serving for twenty years, he had a very distinguished military career. John served two tours of duty in Vietnam and flew A-4 fighter jets. He earned a Bronze Star Medal and three Navy Commendation Medals (among others) before retiring in 1985 as a Lieutenant Colonel. John earned graduate degrees from both Pennsylvania Military College and the University of Southern California. We can all be proud that men like John Grant choose to serve our country. Sailing became his passion after retiring from the Marines. In 1987 and 1988 he was part of the "Stars and Stripes" America's Cup team that won the Cup back from Australia, and defended it from a New Zealand challenge. John continued to work closely with America's Cup teams through the early 1990s. After his sailing days, John moved to Las Vegas and partnered with Robert Lyons and John Kohls. They merged their businesses to form Logistics Concepts Inc. Together they provided their services and products to military and law enforcement agencies to help keep all of us safer. John is survived by his sister Penelope Husson of Las Vegas, NV; brother David Grant of Monmouth, NJ; former wife Suzanne Grant of San Diego, CA; son Jeff Grant of Loveland, CO; daughter Amy Vanderheyden of El Cajon, CA, four grandchildren, and nephews Matt Husson of Virginia Beach, VA, Stephen Husson and Eric Husson both of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by Jasmine, Maxie, and Xena. He is survived by Thor. John will join his parents at Arlington National Cemetery. He will receive a military service and burial on November 13, 2012. You can honor John by giving to the Wounded Warrior Project.
