Karyn Suzanne (Thomas) Harmon Obituary
Karyn Suzanne (Thomas) Harmon 09/18/1943 ~ 08/18/2012 ESCONDIDO -- Karyn Suzanne Harmon was born in Upland, California September 18, 1943, to David and Norma Thomas. She grew up in San Bernardino, California and was a 1961 graduate of Pacific High School. She was a cheer leader and member of the Associated Student Council, and loved by all of her peers. She majored in education at San Diego State College, and married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Harmon, in 1965. They lived in the University City area of San Diego and moved to Escondido in 1971. She had three children, David, Theree, and Derek (Beau). Karyn was a wonderful mother and wife. She always kept her three children, plus a foster daughter, Kym Moore, busy and happy. Her skills as a mom and teacher served her well. Karyn loved Escondido and made it home for the last 41 years. She was involved in all school events and after school activities from baton lessons to Little League. She was the Player Agent for several years while both of her sons were Little Leaguers. And was part of the very successful team that went to Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1981. She did not go but helped raise funds so other parents could. She was unselfish and always wanted to be helpful to others. Those who knew her loved her. Her kindness, warmth, and compassion will always be remembered. She made a friend wherever she went. She faithfully supported her family, constantly putting others before herself. Her passion for children, animals, and the environment were evidenced in the way she lived her life. She made politics fun by hosting more meetings in her home than any other home has in the history of the city. She made friends easily and always had something good to say about everyone ...even those who disagreed with her political positions. Karyn loved animals and had her share of house hold pets. She supported as many national organizations as possible that took care of animals and the environment. She was a member of Green Peace before many knew what it was...and those who knew her think that is why she loved rainbows so much. The ship that Green Peace sailed was named the Rainbow Warrior. When her friends and family see a rainbow they will always think of Karyn...she loved them and her family so much. Karyn was preceded in death by her father David L. Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; children, David and Derek of Escondido, and Theree Proffitt of Oceanside; her mother, Norma Thomas; and sister, Kathryn Lepp (spouse George Lepp) of Bend, Oregon. Survivors also include an aunt, Elnora Squibb of Ontario, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her children, David, Theree, Derek and her husband will miss her greatly. But they see death, as expressed by Peter Marshall, as simply "...good morning in another room." And they look forward to waking in that room too at some future date with Karyn.
