Christopher, Richard "Chris" SAN DIEGO -- Richard "Chris" Christopher, 81, passed away at home in San Diego, CA on September 9, 2013 from complications associated with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Chicago Heights, IL to Lawrence and Louise Christopher of Lorenze, Italy and Lugano, Switzerland. His brother, Lawrence Christopher and sister, Violet Onofrio, predeceased him. He attended St. Ann's Catholic School in Chicago Heights, IL, Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, IL, Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the University of Illinois where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI and served as a Supply Officer aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin and the USS Washoe County. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1959, he married his wife of now 54 years, Diana Colbert Christopher and they were later blessed with two sons, Kurt (Nicole) and Mark (Sharon). After his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1959 he started work in the appraisal and loan departments at Home Fed Bank and retired 30 years later as a Senior Vice President. During his banking career he belonged to numerous service and professional organizations. Chris coached San Carlos Little League teams, loved to play tennis and golf and enjoyed fishing at the Colorado River and hunting on the Rio Hardy in Baja. He was a gentle and kind man who placed his family first and will forever be missed. Appreciation is extended to his Kaiser Permanente doctors and nurses, the Apreva Hospice team and to his caregivers, Maritza Pineda and Blanca Camarena. Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 1 PM at Mission San Diego de Alcala. Donations in his honor may be made to the Parkinson's Association of San Diego (PASD) designated for San Diego Tremble Clefs.
