MORSE, RICHARD ORLAN Sept. 5, 1929 to Feb. 16, 2013 Richard Orlan Morse, 83, of San Diego passed away on February 16, 2013, in San Diego. Richard was born September 5, 1929, in Spink, South Dakota, to Ralph and Ellen Morse. Richard's siblings were Willis, Ellis, Bill, Maxine and Lois. Upon the passing of their father at a young age, his mother moved the family to Lincoln Acres in National City. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1946 where he played football, basketball and track. He continued his love for athletics by playing fast pitch softball on the San Diego Police Department, coaching many Redwood Village Little League teams, ESD Pop Warner football teams, and later girls softball. After high school, he worked at San Diego Onyx Company, moved pianos, and then began his career February 7, 1951, as a patrolman with the San Diego Police Department. He retired as a Sergeant on January 18, 1980. He then worked for the San Diego Unified School district as a campus police officer until his final retirement on Sept. 9, 1990. His special interests and hobbies included woodworking and storytelling in his "workshop", traveling to New Zealand, Fiji, Alaska, playing poker or Keno at casinos, golfing at Bonita Golf Course with all his "ex cop" friends. He especially liked fishing at Imperial Beach Pier, Torrey Pines Beach and throughout Baja Mexico. His favorite fishing spot was Bahia De Los Angeles. He had a great love of reading, writing, and crossword puzzles. Richard is survived by his sons Joseph (Linda) and Charles, daughter Denise Bastin (Ron) and grandsons Jake, Ryan, Devon, Luke and great- grandsons Shane, Brett, Charlie and Sam, and longtime companion Sharon Talmage. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, March 9, 12:00 p.m. at the "workshop" (Joe and Linda's Home) for all family and friends. Call 619-316-8234 for details.
