JOHNSTON JR., SIMEON EDWARD Simeon "Ed" Johnston Jr., 84, passed away January 19, 2013. He was born in Marion, IN, on August 6, 1928, to Ruth and Simeon E. Johnston Sr. He was one of three children and grew up in Jeffersonville, IN, where he met and married Roberta "Bertie" Hickman on February 9, 1951. Bertie preceded Ed in death in September 2005. Ed was a resident of Santee, CA, for the 51 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an AG3 Aviation Aerographer Mate during World War II on the USS Bairoko. He worked as a steamfitter / pipefitter in the Plumber & Pipefitter Union Local 230 from December 28, 1954, retired from the trade on October 1, 1990, and became a Union Local 230 life member on December 28, 2004, with over 50 years of membership. Some of his work accomplishments included but not limited to building of the San Onofre Power Plant, a pipeline through Kenya, Africa, and construction of numerous new homes and businesses located within Indiana and Southern California. Ed was a member of the Jeffersonville Masonic Lodge #340 for 55 years. He enjoyed listening to music, reading, fishing, camping, traveling, attending air shows, and being with his family. He also enjoyed watching his beloved westerns, and the military and history channels on TV. Survived by his two children, Linda Johnston Kelley and husband Bob Kelley, and Simeon Edward Johnston III and wife Teresa; three grandchildren, Simeon Edward Johnston IV, Jessica Johnston, and Tracee Kelley Eger and husband Mark; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Luke Eger; and his sister, Marilyn Leda Johnston, and brother, Douglas E. Johnston, and wife Theresa. Services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at El Cajon Mortuary, El Cajon, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to S.D.
