Obituary Condolences

LYNBERG, TERRY Venerable Canon Dr. Terry Ellsworth Lynberg. Sept. 19,1938 to Feb. 2, 2013 Born September 19,1938 in Los Angeles, California, to Mary Elizabeth Jaksich Lynberg and Ellsworth John Lynberg. Terry attended 32nd Street School adjacent to the University of Southern California where, in 1960, he received his B.A. degree and, in 2003 his Ed. D. degree. In 1964 he warned a S.T.B. from the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and, in 1995, a M.A. from CSULA in Communications. In 1984 he studied at Harvard University and ETS as a Proctor Fellow, in 1989 he received an Ecumenical Fellowship in residence at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Starting his professional career as a presbyter of the Episcopal Church in 1964 he served as Curate at All Saints Parish, Pasadena as well as the Episcopal Chaplaincy at Cal Tech, followed by parish service over the years in Allhambra, San Diego, Point Loma, and Long Beach. In addition he served many years as Chaplain at UCSD, subsequently at UCLA and at USC. Commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy to serve as Chaplain from 1967-71 during the Viet Nam era, he later served as Archdeacon of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles from 1980-1989 becoming instrumental in the foundation of twelve Episcopal Churches and several social service projects. In the late 90's he served as Executive Director of Episcopal Charities and Community Services retiring in 1998. After church retirement, Terry embarked upon a new career as an Adjunct Faculty member in Communications at San Diego Mesa College, Mira Costa College and the U.S. Navy College Afloat program through Central Texas College. He taught summer courses afloat abroad nine Navy vessels including the USS Abraham Lincoln, the USS Constellation, the USS Essex and the USS Bonhomme Richard. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity, Blue Key Honorary Society at USC, Trojan Knights and the American Educational Research Association. Terry is survived by his brother Roger Lynberg, sister-in-law Susan, nephew Nicholas and niece Alexandria Lynberg. Private Family Service to be held at a later date. Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
