Shirley Clark Freeman Ackerman Obituary
Shirley Clark Freeman Ackerman, 93 CARLSBAD -- Shirley Clark Freeman Ackerman passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in Encinitas. Shirley was born in Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank; first husband, Bill; son, James Setterlund; and grandson, Greg. She is survived by sons, Bill and Steve Setterlund; four step-children, Jay Ackerman, Kay Shultz, Tom Ackerman and Bonnie Hoff; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Shirley was a beloved member of the Freeman family, early pioneer settlers in San Diego. Several ancestors are buried at Mission San Luis Rey. She was considered a matriarch and history source for the family, which gathers every year for a picnic at Heritage Park in Oceanside. Shirley also has ties to family from the Pala Indian Reservation. During Shirley's long and fulfilling life, she was known for her independent spirit, her kindness and generosity, and for her ability to see the goodness in all people. Shirley's family marveled at her ability to become a close friend to so many people and to always find time to keep in touch with each of them. She never liked to dwell on problems or setbacks, choosing to repeat the saying she was famous for, "It will all come out in the wash." Shirley enjoyed sewing, knitting, learning new things, gardening, reading, and spending time at the beach. She was a proud member of Las Camadres, a group of spirited women who enjoy life and all it has to offer. Services will be held on Monday, April 26th at 2:30 p.m., at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster, Calif. 92683, with a viewing from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow at Westminster Rose Center, 14140 All American Way, Westminster, Calif. 92683.
