Obituary Condolences

SHUEY, WINIFRED The family of Winifred Shuey is sad to announce that she passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013, at age of 96, with her family nearby after a long, full life. Winifred "Winnie" R. Wahl Shuey was born August 21, 1916 in Elk Creek, Nebraska. She attended High School in Kearny, Nebraska graduating in 1933. She then went on to Kearny State Teachers College and taught one year in a rural one-room school that had students from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Then it was on to University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and Lincoln School of Business. Winifred worked at Bankers Life Insurance Company in Lincoln and then as Secretary in WPA office in Lincoln. She met the love of her life, Charles W. Shuey (deceased in 2007) and was married Oct. 1, 1938 in Lincoln (68 years). In June of 1941, they journeyed to San Diego in a Ford Model T, after seeing the palm trees and the sunshine they immediately decided to stay. Winnie then worked a short time as Secretary to treasurer at Consolidated. Then moved on to work for The Federal Government, Naval Air Station North Island, NSC San Diego, Naval Electronics Laboratory and Naval Air Station, Miramar, retiring in July of 1970. Winnie was actively involved in many groups. In 1975 she was President of Klee Wyk Society and chaired their "Haunted Museum" in Balboa Park. Winnie was High Priestess of Shaaru Court #37 Ladies Oriental Shrine of N.A. in 1983. She became Queen of Mecca Temple #34, Daughter of the Nile in 1991 and was honored four times serving as Goodwill Ambassador for Supreme Temple Daughter of the Nile. She and her beloved Charles Shuey were also very involved with the Elks Lodge 168 where she served as treasurer for Ladies of the Elks for many years. Winifred and Charles enjoyed traveling with their friends and family. They traveled all around the world and especially enjoyed spending time at their trailer in Mt. Laguna with their friends, family, and fellow Shriners from Al Bahr Shrine. Winnie was an active bridge player, and loved entertaining her bridge group. Winnie and Charlie were members of the First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley and managed two apartment buildings together. Preceded in death by parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Wahl, husband Charles W. Shuey, sister Mildred (Mrs. Eldon Smith) and brother Dr. John Wahl of Los Angeles. Winifred is survived by son Frederick R. Shuey, daughter Pamela (Mrs. Pamela R. Plough), grandchildren Kelly (Mrs. Joseph Farney) of Huntington Beach, and Holly (Mrs. Mark Naiman) of San Diego, four great-grandchildren, Joseph Farney III, Carli Farney, Zachary Naiman and Jacob Naiman, stepdaughter Jane Draper (Mrs. Paul Draper) of Papillion, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Mark Andreasen, Marie Lievanos, and Candida Carral from All Seasons Homecare for the exceptionally patient and compassionate care they provided our dearly loved mother and grandmother during her final years. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 9:a.m. at Salli Lynn Chapel, Greenwood Memorial Park.
