1947 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Anderson, Candace Marie RANCHO SANTA FE, CALIFORNIA -- Candace Anderson, 66, of Rancho Santa Fe, passed away on February 19, 2014. Candy was born May 13, 1947, in Ray, Arizona, to John and Lucille Anderson. With her pioneer heritage and deep Arizona roots, Candy developed a mental and physical toughness that permeated her multi-faceted life. Reared in Phoenix, Candy was named Salutatorian at West High School in 1965, where she was creative, witty, and well-liked. Throughout her life, she remained close with a loyal group of friends called "The ThunderChicks." Candy completed her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in 1969, which included a study year in Austria. By 1977, Candy had earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Bio-Medical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, the first woman in their School of Engineering. Candy moved to San Diego in 1978 and worked as an engineer/scientist at Orincon, SAIC, Linkabit, and Motorola. She taught university-level courses at San Diego State University and the University of California at San Diego. During her brilliant career, she was granted numerous patents. Candy spoke three foreign languages, enhancing her travels throughout the world. She hiked from guard tower to guard tower on The Great Wall of China, scaled the Sydney Harbor Bridge on a windy day, rode crocodile-infested river rapids in Costa Rica, and crawled to the top of windmills in The Netherlands. Candy is survived by her husband, Donald Becker of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; son, Bowen Dillman of San Diego, CA, daughter, Kelda Becker of Billings, MT, stepdaughter, Ingrid (Darin) Floyd of Scituate, MA; sisters, Alexandra Anderson of Phoenix, AZ and Carolyn (Dennis) Lee of Prescott, AZ; niece, Tamara (Gary) Thompson, and nephew, Brandon Lee. She is preceded in death by her brother, Josiah Anderson. A memorial service will be held on March 8th at 2 p.m. at El Camino Memorial, Sorrento Valley Chapel in San Diego, with a reception to follow.
