1923 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Del Ross, Joseph Francis 03/08/1923 ~ 04/06/2014 LA MESA -- Joseph "Joe" Francis Del Ross, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle passed peacefully after a long illness on April 6th, with his beloved grandson Dan at his side. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island, to Frank and Mary Del Ross, the seventh of fourteen children. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1940 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he honorably served his country for thirty years. He began his career as a radioman, served aboard the U.S.S. Mazama in Pacific theater during WWII, completed officers' electronics maintenance course in May 1958 and retired from service as a full Lieutenant. After retiring from naval service in 1970, Joe enjoyed a sixteen year career at Scientific Atlanta as a tech writer. Joe married Dorothy Barbara Fleming on January 15, 1946 in Newport, RI. Joe and Dorothy enjoyed their postings with the U.S. Navy, especially their time spent in Naples, Italy. They moved to San Diego, CA and eventually settled in La Mesa, CA in 1969. Joe was a special blend of experience, wisdom, wit and heart. His family members meant everything to him and they were blessed with his constant love and support. Joe's happy cheerful smile and warm laughter will be remembered by all who knew him. He enjoyed traveling adventures, tending his beautiful roses, watching the Chargers and Padres with his grandson Dan, cooking great Italian food; his spaghetti and meatballs are legendary!, and just spending time with the people he cared about. He was a member of St. Philip The Apostle Episcopal Church in Lemon Grove, CA for forty years and most important, he was a Christian every day of his life. Joe is survived by his cherished grandson Daniel Quinci. His dear sister Ann Vieria, his beloved brothers Vincent, Anthony, Frank "Pat" and Stephen Del Ross, as well as many dear in-laws, nieces and nephews also survive him. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Dorothy Barbara Del Ross (Fleming) and his beloved daughter Linda Victoria Quinci (Del Ross). Joe is preceded in death as well by his dear sisters Esther, Connie, and Barbara and his beloved brothers Michael, Louis, Eugene, Dominic and Paul. The viewing will be held in La Mesa at the El Camino Mortuary on Friday, April 11, from 3-7 p.m. The memorial service celebrating the life of Joseph Francis Del Ross will be held at St. Philip The Apostle Episcopal Church, 2660 Hardy Dr., Lemon Grove, CA at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Interment will be immediately following the service at El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego CA. The reception will follow at St. Philip The Apostle Episcopal Church.
