Mary Mumby Judson

JUDSON, MARY MUMBY March 12, 1910 to April 18, 2005 Mary Swormstedt Mumby Judson, 95, of San Diego, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 18. Born in Baltimore, MD on March 12, 1910, she lived her early years in Wyoming, where her father homesteaded. She eventually married K.J. "Mike" Mumby. They moved to San Diego in 1938 and ran the Palomar Miniature Golf Course on Washington Street until 1965, when the golf course gave way to the construction of Interstate 5. In 1989, many years after Mike's death, she married Charles Sterling Judson, Jr., Capt, USN Ret., and they enjoyed 15 years of life together. She was the loving matriarch of her family, a loyal friend to many near and far, and a dedicated supporter of worthy causes, her favorite of which was the LUV (Love Uniting Volunteers) Auxiliary of St. Paul's Manor and Healthcare. She was an avid golfer, formidable duplicate bridge player, enthusiastic gardener, and gracious entertainer. Mary ("Mimi" to her family) always had fresh chocolate chip cookies ready for any visitor. Mary is survived by her husband, Sterling Judson; her daughter, Martha Mumby Anderson Graul of Walnut Creek, CA; grandchildren Mark Anderson of El Cajon, Martha Anderson Bywater of San Diego, Michael Anderson of Annandale, VA, Mary Anderson Dominick of Bayside, CA, Marne Anderson Smith of Tokyo, Japan, and eleven great-grandchildren. We love you, Mimi! A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, on Friday, April 22, 2005, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests, at Mary's request, donations to the Arthritis Assoc. or the LUV Auxiliary, St. Paul's Manor and Healthcare.
