EDITH GRIMM Obituary

GRIMM, EDITH H. 1927 to 2010 On February 13, 2010, Edith Grimm died unexpectedly with her family at her bedside. Edith Grimm was born Edith Anne Huggins in Lovilia, Iowa on February 14, 1927. Ede grew up in a family of ten children, leaving Iowa for Denver, Colorado shortly after graduating from high school. Several years later, Ede moved to San Francisco, where she worked in advertising. After seeing a photograph of William F. Grimm on a co-worker's desk, Ede decided to write the young naval ensign a letter saying she was forming the "Bill Grimm Fan Club." After being pen pals for a few months, they met at a family Christmas dinner, and were married one week later on New Year's Eve, 1951. Ede was an active Navy wife. Her experience hosting squadron parties led her to co-author an hors d'oeuvre cookbook titled "Supremes Before Supper." While stationed in Virginia, Ede developed a love of antiquing and painting. After Virginia, Ede and Bill settled in Coronado, California where they would eventually retire. Ede owned and operated "Tent City Antiques" in Coronado. She continued to paint and often used scenes of Coronado for inspiration. Several of her designs were used for a successful line of greeting cards, and one was used for the cover of the 2001 Coronado phone book. Ede Grimm was a loving wife, mother of three, grandmother of six, and adoptive mother to all. Ede is survived by her husband William F. Grimm, children William P. Grimm, Martha Grimm Workman, Elizabeth Grimm Patten, grandchildren Sean Michael, Sean Lerin, Joseph, Jennifer, Abbey, and Grace, and siblings Margaret Clark, Mary Mattix, Carolyn Stag, George Huggins, and Joe Huggins. Per her wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions to her memory may be made to Navy League/Warrior Foundation, 2115 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101, Memo: "Warrior Foundation" or donate online at http://www.warriorfoundation. com/ and select button "Online donation with the Navy League." Bonham Bros & Stewart Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the Grimm family.

Martha and Bill, I read with sorrow about the passing of your dear Mom/wife. To me, Ede was the "Antique Lady", and I learned so much from her in the shop and at her Estate Sales. May God Bless you all and may her soul rest in Peace! She is not forgotten!

Bill and family, I wish you all God's comfort at this terrible time of loss. Ede was, I believe, the first friend my mother made after we moved to Coronado. And what a great friend she was. She brought so much joy to my mother, Barbara, as they shared their love for cooking, antiqueing, and all that is domestic bliss. In fact one dream my mom never gave up on was to have an antique store with Ede. Everyone in our family grew to love Ede too, of course. I hope to see the dear Gypsy Lady again some day.... Ede and Bill were my introduction to life as a Navy wife in 1966. Ede was such a gracious, warm and welcoming woman. My husband, Don, was impressed by Bill's professional demeanor as a Naval pilot and as a leader. Ede always spoke with such love and pride of their children. She was the epitime of a Navy wife and mother. My condolences to Bill and the family.
