Obituary Condolences

RAMOS, NURBERTA AGNES April 8,1925 to November 19, 2012 Nurberta, or Bertie, as she was known by everyone, was born on a dairy farm in Sausilito, CA, to John and Dina Avila. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Manuel, her sister Urbuna "Bunny" Machado and too many of our aunts, uncles and cousins. Bertie's parents moved to San Diego in 1935 and settled in Point Loma, a large Portugese community where she attended Point Loma High School. Some years later she met and married Manuel J. Ramos. While our father was commercial fishing, she was raising Steven and Sylvia with the help of family and friends. In 1956, the last of their children was born - Michael. Our mom's home was always filled with family and friends. Many times, our family from Hayward, CA, would not arrive until late in the night, where they would always find the door open and and plenty of food for all. Bertie and Manuel owned and operated several businesses in the Point Loma area throughout the years; A Flying A gas station, Clothes r Clean Laundromat, and the Catalina Lounge. Our mother was a confident and strong willed woman, which she instilled into everyone she met. She is survived by her cousin Madeline Andrade, Her children and their families, Sylvia Ramos and Brad "Shak" Sanborn, Michael Ramos and his wife Debbie, Steven Ramos and his wife Pamela, her grandson John Ramos and his wife Rocio and her great-grandson, John "Johnny" Ramos. As well as sister in laws, Rosemarie, Lorraine, and Cecilia. She also leaves behind many neices and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA 92102.
