iconBLACKSTOCK, MARY ANN Mary Ann Blackstock resident of San Diego County since 1923, died on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at her home at White Sands La Jolla. She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Crowley, and son-in-law Mark Crowley, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, as well as an extended family of nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was born in Bend, Oregon and moved with her parents, William and Nelle Sawyers, and sister, Margaret, to Carlsbad, California when she was six weeks old. Mary Ann met her husband, John Allan Blackstock, at Oceanside Junior College. They were married in 1943 and following World War II, they moved to the city of San Diego to reside. Allan pre-deceased Mary Ann in 2010. Mary Ann had a smile that lit a room and was a great pianist and organist. She entertained the folks of San Diego for more than eighty years. She was Executive Secretary for the Lions Club of San Diego for twenty years and was instrumental in planning and facilitating the building of the Lions Club Manor for senior citizens. Mary Ann was also an avid tennis player /competitor. Mary Ann's body was donated to UCSD Medical School for research. No services are planned. The family asks that any donations be made to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103.
