MOCERI, SALVATORE "SAM" Salvatore (Sam) Moceri who was born on December 13, 1912 in the small Sicilian Village of Terrasini passed away at the age of 100, with his children at his bedside Thursday evening Feb. 21 at his home in San Diego. Sam immigrated to Detroit, Mi in 1928 and began working in the produce industry. In 1934 he was reunited with his childhood sweetheart from Terrasini, Grace Tocco, whom he married the following year. Sam and Grace had four children Dominic, Rosary, Sal, and Grace and stayed in Detroit until 1946. Sam sold his flourishing produce business and the six of them moved to San Diego where the climate and beauty reminded them of Sicily. The family took up residence in Pacific Beach. In 1949, Sam Moceri reestablished Moceri Produce on the west coast, and with his sons who joined him in the 1960's, built what would become one of the 50 largest food service distributors in the U.S. Sam and Grace enjoyed many years together travelling and spending time with family and friends. Sam and Grace were married for 68 years until Grace passed in 2003. Sam built a personal and professional legacy which spans five generations. Sam is survived by his four children, Dominic Moceri, Rosary Marino, Sal Moceri, Grace Westover, their spouses, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Viewing and rosary will be held Wednesday, February 27th at 9 am with Funeral Mass immediately following at Our Lady Of the Rosary Catholic Church, 1659 Columbia St. Internment will be at El Camino Memorial Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Interim Healthcare, 5625 Ruffin Rd. #110, San Diego 92123.
