Obituary Condolences

Evola, Betty (Benedetta Alesi ) SAN DIEGO -- Betty Evola (Benedetta Alesi ), 86, of San Diego, passed away on April 18, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her four loving children, Faye Evola Gilmour, Mary Van Syoc, Julian Evola, and Lisa Evola Ralyea; along with nine grand- children, and two great- grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her dear husband, Angelo, her parents Joseph and Maria Alesi, and sisters, Tommie Pernicano and Virginia Randazzo. Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan in May of 1926, surrounded by the love of her Italian- Sicilian immigrant parents. Her close-knit family comprised of her parents, five brothers, three sisters, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Betty was a typical vibrant Italian woman of the immigrant era, where all events revolved around her large, loving family. Since Betty was the second eldest daughter, she took on the responsibilities of raising her younger siblings, while her parents focused on making a daily living at their "Mom and Pop" grocery store. After the end of World War II, Betty anxiously waited for her fiance, Angelo, to return home from the Army so they could celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony on November 28, 1946. In 1955, Betty and Angelo, with their two daughters, relocated to San Diego from Detroit to be closer to Betty's large extended family and share in the many Italian traditions of their homeland. Betty was a strong- minded, independent, hard-working woman and a typical 1950`s housewife. She took pride in her role as a housewife and loved to cook, bake, sew, and garden. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, who always doted on the accomplishments of her children and grand- children. Betty will truly be missed by her family and will live in our hearts forever. A private memorial service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery where Betty will rest in peace alongside her beloved husband Angelo. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Avalon Hospice, 3914 Murphy Canyon Road, Suite A-226, San Diego, CA 92123; 858-751- 0315.
