Steven Berg Obituary

Berg, Steven I. SAN DIEGO -- Steven passed away on May 30, 2013, after a brave fight against cancer. His wife and two daughters were with him when he passed. Born on October 8, 1952, in Washington, DC, Steve soon moved to St. Louis, where he was raised. He attended Northeast Missouri State University and received a degree in geography. Steve was also an honor graduate of the U.S. Army Engineering School and served during the Vietnam era as a cartographic specialist in Fort Bragg, NC. Following his military service and his time at Northeast Missouri State, Steve moved to San Diego to begin work as a city planner. He later transitioned to the private sector, where he worked as project manager for many large commercial, industrial and mixed-used development projects throughout San Diego. In 2002, Steve joined his wife, Kris, in residential real estate, ultimately becoming co-broker and co-owner of San Diego Castles Realty, a real estate brokerage based out of Scripps Ranch. Outside of work, Steve had an avid love for the outdoors and enjoyed annual backpacking trips to Yosemite National Park and Sequoia National Park with friends and his daughters. Steve is survived by his wife, Kristi, of San Diego; his daughters, Rebecca of Washington, DC, and Emily of Santa Barbara, Calif.; his sister, Susan Berg Zuckerman, of St. Louis; his niece, Lauren Berg Zuckerman, of Washington, DC; and his stepmother, Judith, of San Diego. A graveside memorial service was held Monday at El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley.

I have fond memories of "Uncle Steve." He helped me make good decisions. I will miss talking with him about all subjects of life.

Thank you Uncle Steve for all of your words of direction and encouragement. We miss you so much.

I was told of Steve's illness by another High School friend, and thank goodness I called Steve immediately. I had no idea he would only last another month or so. We talked for probably at least an hour, I went to High School with him where we both played Football and attended Northeast Missouri State for a year with him, he played Baseball, I played Football. His Dad even took my Mother out on a date! I've always thought the world of Steve Berg, he was always just an all around great person to be around. A very loving and caring individual. My thoughts and love go out to his family at this time. Damn, I just don't want to believe it...I have a tear in my eye writing this.

Kris, Emily, and Rebecca: My sincere condolences for the loss of such a devoted father and husband. He loved you ladies so much and never stopped bragging about all three of you. Everyone loved Steve as he was always there for everyone and when there was a problem we all knew we could call Steve for anything even chasing down lost dogs. I will miss seeing him jogging around the circle, his funny emails, and smiling face. The neighborhood will never be the same without him and I will miss watching Steve always laughing and joking with Kris and saying protectively and lovingly "Kris don't do that" when she would crawl on the waterfalls to talk through the fence. I will always cherish my present from Washington, D.C. in memory of Steve.

Kris: My sincere condolences to your daughters and you. I thoroughly enjoyed the times I had to chat with Steve when he stopped in at Office Suites.

He will be missed by many here in the community.
