Ward, Buck 01/06/1937 ~ 07/06/2013 EL CAJON -- On July 6, Buck Ward was called to his Eternal Home. Moving to California from Mississippi. In the late 1960s, he began a teaching career at Granite Hills H.S. that lasted for over 30 years. He taught the competitive speech team, English and western literature. He always supported the drama dept., serving as permanent President of the Academy of Judges for annual awards and attending every "Opening Night" performance of the 3 annual plays. Active in Backcountry Horsemen building/maintaining trails in rural San Diego County, standing up for his colleagues as CTA Rep., or coaching sports through The Boy's & Girl's Club, Buck was very involved in his community, giving freely of his talents and time. He was an avid square dancer and horseman. Buck loved spending time with family and friends, camping, doing crosswords, reading Louis L'Amour westerns, showing his beautiful Peruvian Paso horses and imitating his hero John Wayne. His quick wit, welcoming smile and bigger-than-life character endeared him to everyone he met. Preceded in death by his sister Mary, he will be greatly missed by his surviving wife Joyce, sons Buck Jr., Brad and Malek, grandchildren Cody and Samantha, siblings Charlene and Ronnie. Buck Ward's Celebration of Life Service will be held Sun., 7/28/13, at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12821 Ha Hana Rd., Lakeside, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: Golden Eagles Retired Staff Scholarship and can be brought to the service or mailed to: Fiscal Dept., Grossmont Union H.S. Dist., 1100 Murray Dr., El Cajon, CA 92020.
