Patty Berniece Lamon

1921 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Lamon, Patty Berniece SAN DIEGO -- Patty Lamon died on July 29, 2013 at age 91 from metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Tulsa as Pearl Berniece Rubin on October 6, 1921. She was called Patty soon after birth and that remained her name since then. At age seven, she relocated to Cincinnati with her family and lived there with her parents, David and Jennie Rubin, brother, Jerry, in the home of her paternal grandparents, Mendel and Rebecca Rubin. Immediately after graduation from Hughes High School, her family moved to San Diego and she began working to support herself and help support her family. She has been a San Diego resident ever since. At the end of WW II, she met her future husband, Jack Lamon. They were married at Temple Beth Israel on October 27, 1946. Jack died in 2005, after 59 years of marriage. She is survived by her two children Joel (Evelyn) and Jeanne (John) Preves, and three grand- children, Jennifer, Joshua and Nathaniel. They remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who never criticized and always encouraged the best in her family. In addition to working with her husband in his business, she volunteered with Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood, San Diego Hebrew Home and with local and national political campaigns. Bridge was her longtime avocation. She and Jack played together for many years and it was a social outlet for them. After Jack's death, Patty was a regular participant in several bridge games a week at her residence. She enjoyed the company and challenge of the game, commenting that she always learned something new. She collected ideas on bidding strategies until her illness sapped her stamina. She and Jack were frequent travelers to destinations around the world, and she especially liked cruising. Those who knew and loved her are aware that she would be surprised by the outpouring of love and sense of loss from family and friends. She would likely feel humble and grateful that all those she cared about would put their needs and plans on hold for a brief time to remember and celebrate her life. That celebration will continue as long as she is in our hearts. Services on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park Chapel, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego. Patty and her family would prefer that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to Temple Adat Shalom or Congregation Beth Israel.
