Mary Mann Obituary

Mary Jane Mann SAN DIEGO -- Mary Jane Mann, a resident of San Diego since 1997 died on August 16 and entered into life with the Lord, less than two weeks before her 85th birthday and 60th wedding anniversary.
She was born in New York City to Dr. John and Mabel Williams. She grew up in Pound Ridge, New York. She returned to the City to attend Barnard College, where she majored in mathematics.
After graduation she worked for the New York life Insurance Company for two years before enrolling at Yale University Divinity School to study Christian education. It was at Yale that she met Darwin Mann, a ministerial student. They were married in her home church on August 27, 1955. After completion of her studies she taught elementary school for two years until the completion of his studies.
She moved with Darwin to Oakland, California where he served a church. Later they lived in Lafayette, where he served a new congregation. Later they lived in Medford, Oregon, Palo Alto, Pomona and Bakersfield. She always was an active volunteer member of their congregations serving in music roles, teaching and enabling other teachers. Mary Jane will be remembered for her constant positive outlook on life and encourager of all she met.
She served on the general board and the administrative committee of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was active in PEO where she lived. She is remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and community member.
Mrs. Mann was the mother of two sons, Nelson, of Austin, Texas and Barton, who died in April 2015 in Naperville, Illinois. She is survived by her husband, son, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, August 30, at 3:00 p.m. at Torrey Pines Christian Church, 8320 La Jolla Scenic Drive North.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Torrey Pines Christian Church or to the American Heart Association.
