Rudolph Regalado Obituary

Rudolph Valentino Regalado May 21, 1930 - February 12, 2018 San Diego On February 12, Rudy Regalado was called up to God's major league. One of the few to play in the College World Series, World Series, Caribbean Series and Junior World Series, Rudy's family and baseball were his passions. Born in Los Angeles to Manuel and Maria, Rudy grew up with siblings Nellie (Sepulveda), Greg, Ernest and Salvador. He played for USC, the Cleveland Indians (hitting .333 in the 1954 World Series), and the San Diego Padres. After hanging up his cleats, Rudy worked for 25 years at XETV Channel 6. Rudy also gave back to his country and community - serving in the Korean war, coaching little league and raising funds for Catholic charities. But the highlight of his life (after meeting the Pope, of course) was meeting Marilyn Hall in 1954. Rudy and Marilyn shared 57 loving years of marriage and were blessed with 3 sons - Perry (Roberta), Gary (Lisa) and Rudy (Jacki) - and one perfect granddaughter, Sydney. Rudy will be missed by his large, loveable lot of extended family members and wonderful friends, especially those in his adopted hometowns of San Diego and Borrego Springs. Services at 11:00 a.m. March 17 at St. Richard's Catholic Church in Borrego Springs. Take two and hit to right, Rudy!

Rudy was my baseball coach, and I think about him all the time. He was a great coach and taught me so much. More than just baseball. He was a great guy. I feel incredibly fortunate to have known Rudy and his wonderful family. To Rudy Jr and Perry, I am so sorry for your loss. My Dad passed a couple years ago and I hope they're up they're playing pepper and talking baseball!

Too far, too old, to make services. Rudy, myself and Dr. Jim Grant played in the 1964 Over-The-Line Tournament together. Was a great memory. Would you please have one of the boys call me. I have a photo I want to share with the family. I am deeply sorry for your loss. My condolences to the family. - Tom Creamer (619) 269-6960.

Rudy was one of the nicest people I ever met. He was never too busy to help out Borrego Springs Little League and the Borrego Springs High School baseball program. One of the most fun evenings I ever spent was a BSLL fund-raising dinner where Rudy and Roger Craig talked about their careers in baseball. Marilyn, Kathy's and my hearts and prayers go out to you.

In 1957, when I was 14 going on 11, I listened to the Pacific Coast League San Diego Padres on my crystal set -- and Rudy Regalado was my favorite player. Eight years later I was interning at the Washburn and Justice Ad Agency and Rudy walked in the door representing XETV Channel 6. It was like I was meeting the pope.

I knew him as Mr. Regalado, my little league baseball coach and father of my teammates Perry, Gary and Rudy. What a wonderful, kind man. I didn't know at the time what an incredible baseball teacher I had. A lot of the love for baseball that I developed can be attributed to his coaching. I am happy that he enjoyed a long and meaningful life.

Marilyn, we remember the many great times we spent together. Rudy is a man who will be missed by many. We're not sure if GOD will advise that he "take two and hit to right", but who knows, Rudy's been traded to the ANGELS.
